Spray paint is not just for home improvement craft projects. Spray paint is not just a graffiti medium. If you've been to Miami, you've seen Miami spray paint art on walls of buildings and signs. In the Wynwood Arts District you have seen Miami spray paint art all over walls and sides of buildings - even inside many galleries. Miami spray paint art is changing from a an outdoor graffiti art form into that can be displayed indoors or out anywhere year-round. Ironically, because of the durability of spray paint, Miami spray paint art will last year after year whether it is done indoors or out. I know of one piece of Miami spray paint art that even survived a fire in which most of the other works of art were completely destroyed.

Miami spray paint art can be done with or without stencils. It can also be done on walls, masonite, wood, canvas, plastic, or any surface that you feel like decorating with your particular brand of art. Many Miami spray paint artists began using stencils because stenciling with spray paint is a quick way to get a subversive message onto private property (i.e. illegal graffiti) and escape into the night without being caught. Stencils have evolved as Miami spray paint art has evolved.

Many areas of Miami encourage Miami spray paint art in the form of murals on the sides of buildings. However, stencils are still often used to keep the straight edges and clean lines intact. Arevalo Gallery presents photography exhibit "Insight", a Miami group show featuring a art works from Latin American Modern artists, preeminent contemporary artists and two emerging Miami artists - photographers.

The Wynwood Art Walks take place monthly from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m, exibiting the work of Miami artists. Food trucks, live music, and great art abound! Miami art gallery walk is free and open to the public. Miami artist galleries open their doors to the public for this Miami artist adventure. Entertainment, wine, street art and more spill onto the streets of Wynwood. The public is invited to gather and enjoy the miami artists vibrant and creative atmosphere. The Wynwood Art District extends approximately from North Miami Avenue to I95 and runs from 10th to 36th Street.

Miami Artists of today tend to use found or "recycled matials rather than buying new miami artist materials. “Modify, as Needed,” is a group show at the Museum of Contemporary Art. "Modify as Needed" includes 11 international and/or miami artists who create ingenious works of miami art using materials that you may see every day. Everyday items are edited into a work of miami art by miami artists and international artists. The miami art exhibit shows their thoughts in the areas of art, film, media, fashion, and architecture. The miami artists and international artists’ subtle reinventions investigate how we view culture as a society. Most of the show’s participants created works specifically for the project.A must see in Miami Art.

South Florida Tiki Art is really starting to take off. The South Florida Tiki scene is hotter than ever with collectors, mixologists, and tiki enthusiasts from around the world. South Florida hosts a number of fun Tiki and Tiki Art Events including Hukilau, Tiki themed art shows not to mention Disney's reopening of Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room.

The Hukilau is a fan-tabulous tiki event that takes place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida each and summer. The event features the best in Tiki Cocktail Mixology, Tiki Artwork, Tiki Crafts, and lots of great retro clothes, accessories, jewelry, and home decor. The Hukilau is usually held at the Bahia Mar with a cocktail evening at the historic Mai Kai in Fort Lauderdale.

Tiki art is categorized by a retro 1950's style of the backyard luau parties that made Tiki culture popular in the mid 20th Century. The annexation of Hawaii into the United States caused a rise in the popularity of tropical cocktails, Hawaiian shirts, and syrongs. Tiki Bars and Tiki Themed restaurants sprang up across the country. We are now seeing a revival of this fun and fantastical culture. And why not have cocktail hour in a grass skirt? Cheers!
